Season 2: Episode 5 - Hospital at Home
Many aspects of the United States look very different today than they did on March 1, 2020, and healthcare is no exception. The pandemic has caused a shift in how people view hospitals and has brought to new light the advantages of healing in the comfort of your own home - much like people did a century ago. But will the Hospital at Home really catch on or is it a passing piece of the history of healthcare? Herd and Kyle are joined by founding partner and member of the board of directors at Emerus Holdings, Inc : John Buck, MD to discuss the Hospital at Home delivery model. Dr. Buck is hospital founder and former CEO, U.S. Air Force Veteran, and board-certified emergency medicine provider. Together, the group will explore the past and present of the Hospital at Home model and will discuss what the future of this unique medicine delivery model may hold.
Season 2: Episode 4 - Trends in Healthcare Now
2022 has been an eventful year for the healthcare space. From companies like CVS acquiring more and more of the continuum of care; to corporate giants like Amazon acquiring the primary care organization One Medical, the industry is seeing unprecedented M&A activity, with few signs of slowing down, despite overall economic uncertainty. In this episode of the JTaylor Healthcare podcast, Kyle and Herd welcome a very special guest, Blake Madden, to discuss the current healthcare market, the trends it is seeing, and what the future of consolidation might look like. Blake is a former healthcare consultant and current author of the health care business newsletter, “Hospitalogy”. With the newsletter, Blake reaches over 6,000 healthcare insiders each week providing in depth analysis and deep insights into the business of healthcare. Please join Kyle, Herd, and Blake in this lively discussion.
Season 2: Episode 3 - On the Edge of the Medicare Cliff
Medicare faces a “fiscal cliff” as the Medicare Hospital Insurance trust fund is currently projected to run out of money in 2028. In a country with an aging population and a decreasing number of workers to support the Medicare insurance program for seniors, the fiscal cliff is a concern for current and future Medicare patients and the providers who serve them. In this episode of the JTaylor Healthcare Podcast, Kyle and Herd welcome fellow JTaylor Partner and Director of Quality and Research, Courtney McKay, to discuss the recently released Medicare Trustees Report that outlines the future fiscal challenges of the Medicare program. Kyle, Courtney, and Herd talk about these challenges, their potential impact on healthcare providers and dealmakers, and possible actions that congress and leadership in Washington may take in the future to keep Medicare from falling off the cliff.
Season 2: Episode 2 - Rural healthcare in the United States
From payer mix and funding challenges to physician and nurse recruitment, rural hospitals are faced with financial and clinical pressures every day. COVID has added an additional layer of complexity as many people have moved from cities to smaller rural areas and they bring with the health care needs and expectations for care.
In this episode of the JTaylor Healthcare Podcast, Kyle and Herd welcome Eide Bailly Partner-in-Charge of Critical Access Hospitals: Ralph Llewellyn. Ralph is a subject matter expert in rural and critical access healthcare. Ralph, Kyle, and Herd will discuss the past, the present, and the future of rural health, a topic that is often overlooked in the vast and changing healthcare space.
Season 2: Episode 1 - The Great Resignation’s Pinch on Healthcare
With staffing challenges, small reimbursement increases (if any), and rising costs, healthcare providers face many challenges to their bottom line… at some point, something will have to give.
In this episode of the JTaylor Healthcare Podcast, Kyle and Herd welcome back JTaylor Partner Anna Brewer to the podcast to discuss some looming issues for providers, cover a rapidly changing dynamic framework that healthcare has not seen in some time, and dive into how these issues may impact provider operations, valuations, and health care transactions.
